Archaeology of Iona and Lindisfarne webinar
Online

Iona, off the west coast of Scotland, and Lindisfarne, off the east coast of Northumberland, share the characteristics of being small islands which were settled by early medieval church communities.  In both locations, recent archaeological work has revealed new information about those settlements, and how the ‘monastic’ islands interacted with their secular neighbours and other church communities.  This webinar will take a visual tour of the sites, and explore the new light they have shed on our understanding of early medieval Gaelic churches.

the History of Brittonic Languages webinar

Welsh, Cornish and Breton have had quite different trajectories in the last few hundred years.  Originating in the same proto-Brittonic language which would have been used in the early centuries CE/AD, the three languages experienced gradual isolation and then exposure to different linguistic and political environments.  In this webinar, we will take an overview of the development of this branch of the Celtic language family both linguistically and against its social and cultural backgrounds.  No knowledge of the languages is required.
